Class Schedule:

Handbuild Pottery Classes
4 weeks with Rebecca
March 13th-April 3rd
Every Saturday from 11am-1pm
One Time Registration Fee of $10

Age Group 8-12
Class size 6 of students
Registration OPEN now

Classes will include each of the following methods and the objects made will be fired, glazed and/or painted so each student will take home finished items.  Samples and ideas will be presented but the students will be encouraged to build his/her individual creations.

Handbuild pottery invites creativity and results in finish products fairly quickly, with very few tools and very little practice.  The basic techniques are:

PINCHING - is simple the manipulation of a single lump of clay with one's hands.  Objects can be made as small or as large as you want.  Many variations of objects (useful, artistic) are possible.

COILING - is formed by wrapping a rope of clay around itself, stacking the coils to build height and adding new coils as necessary.  The coils are made by hand by rolling the clay on a flat surface while pressing gently with your fingers.  This method also produces many variations of objects.

SOFT SLABBING - Pieces made with soft slabs are usually fluid because the moist clay is easy to fold, bend, press into molds, and drape over or into molds.   The slabs are rolled out as you would for pie crusts.

STIFF SLABBING - These slabs are allowed to dry so they can stand on their own and be used for building objects such as boxes, bird houses, and other items that won't stump while being formed.

Cake Decoration
6 weeks with Kathy Targalia
Day, time and fee will be announced shortly
One Time Registration Fee: includes a starter kit
Starting
in late March
You must bring your own cake for each class and Kathy will help you create beautiful designs!

Whether you are an amateur or professional, beginner or experienced, taking cake decorating classes can be a worthwhile investment and fun! Whatever your specific goals, you will be rewarded by one or more of the following key benefits:

1. Improved skills
2. Cake decorating ideas and tips
3. Encouragement and feedback
4. Creative inspiration
5. Connections with others with similar talents and interests.

Unless you were fortunate enough to learn cake decorating as a child, you will probably experience frustration trying to learn from a cookbook. Cake decorating is a skill that requires special knowledge and hands-on experience. It is so much easier to learn by watching others and receiving guidance as you make your first attempts.

Kathy will show you what to do and give you the information you need to get started at home. She will give you practical cake decorating tips; tell you which tools and ingredients to buy; and guide you step-by-step from simple projects to more complicated ones.
